The Clown

The Clown

by Laren Grey

I have been the clown.

I have dodged great beasts

and made the whole world laugh.

I have juggled and leapt

and forged art with my hands

I have been a clown

and I have stumbled and tumbled

into the hearts of crowds

I have promised happiness to sad hearts

and brought them up when they were down.

I have been the clown.

I have been a clown

and I have confused the circus as the town.

I have brought to life another world

and I have let the real world down.

I have been the clown.
